Anya Doi-Benson

Biography
Anya Doi-Benson is currently Associate Professor of Humanities in the Center for Global Education and Japanese Studies at Doshisha University. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of York in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television. Her doctoral thesis focused on representations of the past and future in popular Japanese children’s franchises, and the interactions between those representations and the marketing of the texts. Before her doctoral degree, she received her MA degree in Japanese Studies from SOAS, University of London.Prof. Doi-Benson has published in journals including The Communication Review, Contemporary Japan, and Creative Industries Journal. Her main research interests include space-based media franchising strategies and cross-platform media instruction. Her current research explores media guidelines to government policies and political issues, particularly focusing on the ways in which policies to promote diversity are introduced in contemporary Japanese media texts.
