He started his research career in NTT Laboratories. His major research was the tribology design of hard disc storage. He was widely recognized as one of the pioneers in this research field and he received the JSME Machine Design and Tribology Division Award in 1994. In 1991, he took part in the establishment of NTT Communication Science Laboratories, and was engaged in the laboratory management as a General Manager. He was very active not only in NTT R&D Labos but also in NTT business sectors. Prior to joining DBS, he was the leader of the "Ju-ki net project" for constructing the e-Japan infrastructure.
