Keith Jackson

For his first degree Keith studied Linguistics at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK). He subsequently trained Norwegian then Swiss apprentices in business communications (English) before advising HR Departments at companies across Europe on the design and delivery of their learning and development programmes. This experience led him to take Masters degrees in Education and in Higher & Professional Education (University of London) and an MBA with the UK Open University Business School. His PhD (SOAS, University of London) explored cross-cultural negotiations of trust in employment (psychological) contracts. He is currently researching professional expectations among mid-career employees in Europe and Asia and organisational responses to ageing societies, comparing HRM practices in Germany and Japan.

Keith is founding co-editor and author of the Routledge Working in Asia series and reviews editor for several journals including Asia Pacific Business Review and South Asian Journal of Global Business Research. Recent publications include: Management Systems and Styles in East Asia (in Warner, 2012); Human Resource Management: The Key Concepts (with C. Rowley, 2011); Innovation in Japan: Emerging Patterns, Enduring Myths (with P. Debroux, 2009). He is currently producing a new textbook on Japanese management, to be published by Routledge in 2014.

Keith maintains a long-standing relationship with SOAS, University of London, where he works on MSc programmes in International Management and Public Sector Management. He is Honorary Visiting Research Fellow at Cass Business School (London), Associate of the CIPD, and currently holds visiting positions at business schools in China, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Turkey. Apart from university teaching and research, Keith works as a consultant-practitioner in international management education, most recently at Kobe University.
